It might not seem like a long time since London’s tube drivers Held The Capital To Ransom; and that’s because it was only last week. However, yesterday the BBC reported that “London Underground workers will stage two more strikes in the dispute over night tube plans.”
The response from some sections of the press has been predictable. In response to a (now deleted) blog post from a tube driver defending her wages, The Telegraph’s Julia Hartley-Brewer has written this completely non-hysterical article slamming tube drivers for their salaries. For the sake of brevity, I won’t go through the whole article, but let’s delve a little further into the first few paragraphs.
“Driving a tube train is not particularly skilled work. It doesn’t take years of training or education to do it and even an 18 year old can do the job after just a few months’ training.”
